interesting thread clicky..

hmm.. titay... my perspective about why people might have come up with the thought that heart could be used as the symbol of love..

as u said earlier... the heart beats faster when u see ur loved ones... u can feel ur heart getting heavy when u are hurt..blah blah.. all that emotional crap... if u know what i mean hehe

biologically.. the heart pumps blood to every single part of our body.. we dont have a heart, we have no life... u should know these medical terms better than i ever would.. plus... the brain already has too much to think about.. we got school, family, friends, relatives... so on and so forth.. the brain takes care of everything that we would ever need to think about.. why would we wanna put a pressure on the brain when the brain is already under a lot of pressure?.... makes sense? and the other parts of our body are equally pressurized too.... hehe... so now.. we have the heart that does nothing much but pumps blood.. unfair!!! so there we go.. it gets the toughest job.. "feel the love".. it gets hurt with every possible little thing.. let me not explain that out here anymore.. lol

oh well.. thats what i have to say regarding ur question hehe.. jpt lekhya ho hai feri.. feri bholi aaula questions liyera.. lol

<peace!

Although it’s not the area of my specialization and interest but to make this thread move I will take this question.

A visual defect in which the two eyes fail to work together as a coordinated team resulting in a partial or total loss of binocular depth perception and stereoscopic vision. At least 12% of the population has some type of binocular vision impairment. Amblyopia and strabismus are the most commonly known types of binocular vision impairment. There are some un-researched suggestions that the application *Gajal* helps prevent loss of binocular depth perception and stereoscopic vision. Others claim *Gajal* somehow prevent mucus formation (it’s not true), but may help to hide mucus formed by imparting black color to it. The long term medical research on this topic is rare. Up to now it is believed to be related to beautification of a face.

Although *Gajal* is virtually made up of bacterial-resistant materials, it’s generally advised not to use mascara (commercial form of *Gajal*) for more than four months after opening since it can become contaminated and cause an eye infection. If a child gets an infection in eye or eczema on the skin around the eye it’s suggested not to use it.

Rather than of its uses, the main problem observed in many developing countries is its application procedures. Many cases of eye injuries either by un-cut nails of mothers or unwashed hands for other infections have been reported. It's possible to scratch an eye when applying *Gajal* in a rush and not using proper applicators.

To make this topic interesting let me add few more things on myths about children’s eye care:

• Child should not sit too close to the TV. (FALSE)
• Child should not hold books too close to the eyes. (FALSE)
• Rubbing the eyes will hurt them. (FALSE)
• Crossing your eyes will hurt them. (FALSE)
• Carrot should be eaten to make your eyes stronger. (THEY HELP, and good for you, and yummie, but carrots do not make the eyes 'stronger', FALSE)
• Reading in dim light hurts your eyes/should be avoided. (FALSE)
• Lying down in the bed and reading should not be allowed. (FALSE)
• Too much TV and computer exposure, especially computer games will hurt your eyes. (FALSE)

Parenting: Pediatric Eye Care, Children's Vision, Lazy Eye, Esotropia, Exotropia, Exophoria, Esophoria, Convergence Insufficiency, accommodative, hyperopia, esotropia, hyperopia, blindness in one eye, amblyopia this site has some good tips for eye care.

But, focussing your eyes for long time at same point in the same posture would not help for the good eye’s functionality, why not it be the staring at the eyes of your lover

Thanks Inspiring -mind for some focus on eyes and its myth. I really found very intresting about few myths that you posted there... they were very useful... I utterly failed to all those myths.. that proves how less knowledge I have about health...I was laughing with disbelief... thanks anyway

My next question ....can anyone tell me about the discovery of Erasers?? Erasers that can erase things you have written with pencil.... And do anyone knows why it smells good?

The Heart Symbol - Origin, History And Significance

From Wikipedia
In European traditional art and folklore, the heart symbol is drawn in a stylized shape. This shape is typically colored red, suggesting both blood and, in many cultures, passion and strong emotion. The hearts and the diamonds are the two red suits in most playing card decks. The shape is particularly associated with romantic poetry; it is often seen on St. Valentine's Day cards, candy boxes, and similar popular culture artifacts as a symbol of romantic love.

What the traditional "heart shape" actually depicts is a matter of some controversy. It only vaguely resembles the human heart. Some people claim that it actually depicts the heart of a cow, a more readily available sight to most people in past centuries than an actual human heart. However, while bovine hearts are more similar to the iconic heart shape, the resemblance is still slight. The shape does resemble that of the three-chambered heart of the turtle, and that of the human male prostate gland, but it is very unlikely that the image was patterned after either of these organs.

The "heart" shape could also be considered to depict features of the human female body, such as the female's pubic mound or spread vulva. The tantric symbol of the "Yoni" is another example of a heart-shaped abstraction of a woman's vulva. In fact, the symmetry resembles the vulva far more than the asymmetry of the organ. In the introduction to the Vagina Monologues Gloria Steinem writes, "[The heart] was reduced from power to romance by centuries of male dominance."

Others maintain that the heart resembles the shape of the female breasts or the female buttocks.

Another possible origin can be seen on the coins of the ancient city of Cyrene, some of which depict the seeds or fruit of the now-extinct silphium plant. The seeds are distinctly heart-shaped. Since this plant was widely used as an ancient herbal contraceptive or abortifacient, this shape may have come to be associated with sexuality and love.

The "heart" shape is formed by the back and wings of a dove, which was associated with Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love.

It may also be a stylised form of the combination of the silhouettes of two people kissing.

The most common emoticon for the heart is <3. In Unicode, the heart symbol is U+2665, and it can thus be generated in HTML by typing ♥ or ♥, or by the HTML entity ♥. Mathematically, a heart-shaped figure, called a cardioid, can be represented by plotting a graph of either (x2 + y2 − 1)3 = x2y3 or, in polar form, r = 1 − sin(θ)

Hey now dont change the symbol into brain... cause our brain not only consists memories of love.... only Love affection can never define brain...
just find out the next......

Anything that is accessible/interest to/of large population to a geo-political region were found to be offered to God/s. Money is common for philanthropy and to offer as charity to the religious institutions and is used for human welfares, such as, building hospitals and education institutions. Regarding flower it’s always has been the gesture for kindness, love and affection, and can be offered to anyone who he/she loves. Regarding rice it is not offered to god everywhere in the world, if you look at Pagan culture they offer amaranth grains for god, and there are many tribal cultures where you will find maize and potatoes being offered to the god and goddess.

You may not need the huge investment, research and resources if you have a common sense about common things that are common/not common. Here is one good example;

When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out that the pens wouldn't work at zero gravity (ink won't flow down to the writing surface). To solve this problem, it took them one decade and $12 million. They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, in practically any surface including crystal and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees C.

Russians were the competitors in the space technology during that time. And what Russians did was….used pencils.

This year the world is observing the Environment Day (June 5, 2008) with the slogan “Kick the Habit: Towards A Low Carbon Economy.”...What would be its relevance to Nepal?

I think Nepal is environmentally rich country.... if you see sky skayppers as the sign of development then you might dislike my views... but still you can say that Nepal is not responsible for the ozone hole....nor for speeding up global warming. Now the present world is going to face energy crisis.... its still a matter of challenge to see how nepal going to face it...how our leaders gonna built it... will they as always push the country to the non renewable energy or gonna invest more in the sustainable energy .... it seems for now they all are busy to be president.
