Addressing a press meet today, Additional Inspector General Keshav Baral announced an award of Rs 50,000 for a tip-off on the whereabouts of any of the four absconding kidnappers.
He added that the process to issue red corner notice through Interpol has already been initiated. After 10 days of investigation, Metropolitan Police Crime Division Hanuman Dhoka identified the gang's leader as Siddhartha Lama, 42,of Sunakothi, Lalitpur Lama hails from Sukepokhari-1, Dhankuta. He was
arrested from Boudha in 2001 in a case of robbery. He introduces
himself as a manpower agent and used to work as a security guard with
an international company. According to the police, the abductee was
kept in the rented house of Krishna Rai alias Bijaya and Hemant at
Nakkhu-13 in Lalitpur sub-Metropolitan City. The police also confiscated Rs 246,000, a car, four motorbikes, a scooter and three helmets used in the abduction from Nakkhu. Police
uniforms, two pistols, two magazines, 33 bullets, two plastic hand
grenades, four khukuris, banned narcotic drugs, medical kit,
jewelleries and mobile sim cards were also seized. Senior
Superintendent of Police Upendra Kant Aryal of MPCD said organised
criminal gangs operating in the capital were well-informed and were
exploiting the loopholes in the legal system. Dr Devkota appreciated the efforts to nab the criminals. “Had the police been well-equipped, the investigation process would have been quicker,” he added. Dr Devkota said instead of defaming the police force, public should cooperate with them. Dr Devkota’s daughter was abducted on August 3 and was freed the next day.
