The three ruling parties have agreed to appoint three deputy Prime Ministers as they prepare to expand the cabinet.
As per the agreement, UML leader Bam Dev Gautam who will hold the second
position in the government, Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and
Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav will be the deputy prime ministers.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal held separate meetings with the leaders
of UML and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) before reaching the agreement.
Emerging from the meeting with the Prime Minister in Baluwatar, UML
general secretary Jhala Nath Khanal said the Maoists and UML agreed to
stick to Thursday's agreement -- to give second position to Gautam in the
cabinet. He said the government would take full shape when the new
ministers including six from UML and five from CPN (Maoists) are sworn in
on Sunday. The Maoists are likely to name their remaining ministers later
today.
The Prime Minister also held separate meetings with leaders of smaller
parties as part of a bid to persuade them to join the government, possibly
on Sunday itself. Sources said Janamorcha Nepal and CPN (Marxist Leninist)
are likely to send their candidates to the government tomorrow.
Dahal also met with leaders of Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) and
Sadbhawana Party (SP) and urged them to join the government.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, TMLP chairman Mahantha Thakur said
his party is not going to join the government and that support to the
government would depend on its actions.
