Girl living with shrapnel for last five years

A girl in Palpa district has been living with shrapnel inside her forehead after falling prey to a stray bomb explosion about five years ago.

14-year-old Keshari Rana of Khaliban VDC-5, who also lost her elder brother Aaitu in the explosion, reportedly suffers from occasional seizures which are hampering her studies and day-to-day activities.

She is forced to live with shrapnel inside her forehead for all these years, as she did not get timely and proper treatment due to poor financial condition of her family.

Keshari's father Gopi Rana said that he had first taken her to Mission hospital in the district headquarters immediately after the blast where she received primary treatment. However, the doctors there had told him that they could not extract the shrapnel as it is stuck deep in the forehead and returned her home.

After repeated pleas for help to authorities concerned including the Home Ministry yielded no result, a local NGO - Indreni Society Center - has come forward saying that it is ready to help her by providing financial assistance for her treatment.

Keshari has now been taken to Bharatpur in Chitwan for treatment. She is now taking regular medicine as per the doctor's advice and looking forward to her successful operation.
